Love him or hate him (or loathe him to the eternal depths of your being) Donald John Trump will take office on Jan. 20, 2017. Mostly because of the absurd nature of this Presidential Election I have felt greatly compelled to expand my understanding of US politics so I can be a better citizen. I do not intend to post rhetoric or purposefully engage in the decimation of disinformation. I merely want to learn. So, I have undertaken a personal project to help myself sift through all of the nonsense and to see where everyone stands on the issues so I can more efficiently navigate what will most certainly be an interesting upcoming four years.
My hope is that Facebook will be a medium to promote the institution of learning and understanding while I pursue this project. It is, after all, a great tool in our modern age despite the negative mores it seems to embolden, at times. Remember that behind the often vague, sourceless, and sometimes abusive and biased thoughts posted to the internet in endless waves that there are actual human beings with beating hearts and thinking minds. We are people with the capacity to do great things, and yet many of us wade through and contribute to an ocean of nonsense, confusion, intimidation, prejudice and trivialities. We are capable of so much goodness, and we all deserve love and understanding, not onslaughts of negativity. My plea to any reading this is two fold: Firstly, it is to engage in more meaningful debate with one another and to make an exerted attempt to see where your own character falters before pointing out those of others. And secondly, it is to stand up and be who we were born to be. We need to do this more than ever, right now. Look deeper, stand taller, and be a member of society that honors and upholds the principles outlined in the Constitution of The United States of America and the other founding documents.
This post signifies the beginning of my personal investigation into our own President-elect, Donald Trump. I want to know, beyond the blastings of the media and those paid to propagandize the internet and other information outlets (do I need to convince anyone of the problems with this sort of thing?) who Mr. Trump is, what he stands for, and how his policies will affect our Nation. I don’t do this because I particularly want to. I do this out of genuine concern for my Country. I do it because I know I will learn a lot. I do it because I want what’s best, and regardless of how we define “best” or whether everyone can agree on what is best, I am certain that the more informed we are the greater chances that the best thing will, indeed, happen. And finally, I do it in hopes that I might be found to be wrong about some very dreadful concerns I have. In contrast to the natural urges I want to know if I am wrong about something, especially when what is at stake is the future of my Country.
I want to know the issues, and I am asking for your help, all the internet and my readers. That said, I am not opening this up for a free-for-all comment bombardment on the ethics and values of Mr. Trump. I have a very specific plan for untangling the mess that has surrounded his political career. I intend to address all of the nitty gritty surrounding President-elect Trump (don’t you worry), however, I want to address the most pressing issues first, at this time. To keep this on point I will welcome any comments pertaining to the following question and dismiss any attempts to redirect it or evade it.
On his website President-elect Trump has announced a “100-day action plan to make America Great Again.” In it, he lists, ways in which he will clean up the corruption in DC, ways he will protect American workers, and ways he will restore security and the rule of law. I encourage all to read it. Here is a link to the document on his site. Keeping with a plan of action which will help me understand the real problems involved with Trump I am reining my concerns in and am going about this in baby steps. So, my first concern is with the very first thing he puts on his list which is, “First: Propose a constitutional amendment to impose term limits on all members of congress.”
Are you for or against this? And why or why not. For myself, and in my largely ignorant political state, I would be inclined to say that this proposal is a very good thing. But tell me what you think. Internet, I am invoking your response, and I accept the consequences of my actions. Let me know what you think. Thank you.
